MATERIALS: Cotton, Musekese, Mututu Fibre, Cow Dung

This piece is a textile translation of the tension between indigenous technologies and the current state of the present. The piece has been knotted using botanical fibres, which respond to the environment in which they are contained and loosen as time progresses, slowly unraveling and releasing the tension. A visual metaphor for the healing found in reigniting indigenous technique in the present. Upcycled cotton has been dyed using the Musekese Seed pod which at different temperatures releases an array of shades and hues. This speaks to the dynamic nature of botanical material and as a parallel the dynamic nature of indigenous technology in its resourcefulness
